THE FLORA AND FAUNA OF LAKE GARDA

The mild climate, influenced by the presence of Lake Garda, has permitted the growth of numerous species typical of the Mediterranean; olive, almond and cypress trees. On the crest of the hills there are a sporadic presence of rarebushes and trees such as oak, the smoke tree, juniper trees, thorn bushes, rose bushes, gorse bushes and the hairy bloom. In this natural environment one can find the true jewels of the morenic flora, both for the rarity of the speciesand for the beauty of their flowering. Amongst these there are the pulsatilla, the spring clover, the field scabious, the rapunzel and the bellflower, the germander of the red flowers and those of the mountain, the red thistle and the round-headed garlic, and one of the most beautiful flowers of the Italian flora, the red lily. Numerous are the areas where there is the spontaneous growth of infinite types of orchids, some very rare.
